Approximately 75% of my practice is with individuals, and 25% with couples. I limit my practice to work with adults. I do not work with anyone younger than age 17, except for very specific reasons (such as phobia treatment). I am experienced and comfortable working with heterosexual and same-sex couples. I do not do forensic (legal) evaluations, formal testing, or testify in court. My usual session length is 50 minutes. Longer sessions (90 minutes) are possible by special agreement. My customary fee is $100 per session, although I am happy to negotiate reduced fees for those in difficult financial circumstances. I accept cash, checks, MasterCard and Visa. Clients are expected to pay for sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, unless the reason for cancellation is illness or emergency. I expect that we will keep all scheduled appointments. This applies to me, too, so if I (god forbid) miss a scheduled appointment, I give the client a free session. While I am happy to fill out paperwork for my clients who wish to be reimbursed by insurance companies, I no longer directly bill insurance companies. This rule is for both pragmatic and ethical reasons. First, it is not unusual to wait weeks or even months for an insurance company to pay. The time it takes to deal with them (paperwork and phone calls) would require me to significantly increase my fees. Second, in my professional opinion, how long and for what reason I'm seeing a client should be decided by me and the client, not some outside gatekeeper whose job depends on the insurance company's profits. |
